New Delhi, March 28, 2025, As travellers make their way through the hustle and bustle of Delhi, often navigating the pollution of the city, stepping into Delhi Airport offers an immediate sense of relief. Passengers are surrounded by colorful winter flowers, lush greenery, and air-purifying plants that not only beautify the space but also improve breathability, creating a healthy environment. The beautifully designed and geometric-crafted plantation bed adds the overall aesthetic of the entire airport area from the approach road to terminal buildings.

Delhi Airport’s terminal building’s green spaces are home to more than 40,000 indoor plants, including Spathyphyllum, Dypsis lutescens,  Senseveria, golden pothos, etc. species known for their air-purifying properties. These plants help absorb harmful toxins from the air, reduce pollution levels, and release fresh oxygen, ensuring that travelers enjoy cleaner, healthier air while moving through the terminal.

The variety of plants at the airport is also vast, including exotic species from Thailand and Indonesia. The carefully curated greenery comprising varieties of trees, shrubs, hedges, groundcover, and lawn is spread across more than 4,00,000 square meters of landscaped beauty, which extends to all three terminals of T1, T2 and T3.

This green initiative by DIAL houses Delhi Airport’s nursery, one of the largest Airport plant Nursery in India, spanning over 400,000 square feet. These plants contribute significantly to the creation of a greener and healthier airport environment, improving air quality and providing a peaceful transit point for passengers.

In order to have sustainable greenery all year around, DIAL has installed a state of the art automatic micro irrigation system which is again among one of the few installations in India where a Computerized Central Control System aided with only two wire (low voltage) control cable decoder system, has been used for automation. The irrigation system at Delhi Airport uses 100 Percent sewage treated water, conserving precious potable and groundwater resources.

Supported by a dedicated team of over 240 gardeners, supervisors, and horticulturists, DIAL ensures that these spaces are meticulously maintained and continue to provide a positive, nature-filled experience for all.

Presence of such a big green patch in the city helps in reducing pollution and moderating temperatures in the long run. And Delhi Airport is proud to offer travellers not just a transit point but a sanctuary where they can breathe easy, relax, and enjoy the calming influence of nature.
