GMR Energy Limited (GEL), a subsidiary of GMR Infrastructure Limited, is pleased to announce the commissioning of its first 25 MW Solar Power Plant in Patan district, Gujarat. This plant also marks the GMR Group's foray into the renewable energy space.

The 25 MW grid-interactive solar power project was executed through GMR Gujarat Solar Power Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of GMR Energy. The project was awarded in October 2010 under the Gujarat Solar Policy.

This plant uses crystalline PV technology and is located in the Solar Park set up by the Government of Gujarat at Charanka village in Patan district. The project was successfully commissioned on 31 December 2011 and holds the distinction of being the first among several projects in the Solar Park to be synchronized with the grid.

Power from this plant will be supplied to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement as per the Gujarat State Solar Policy.

GMR Energy Limited, a flagship company of the GMR Group, plans to enhance its renewable energy portfolio by over 100 MW in the next two years.

GMR Energy Limited is currently operating 808 MW. The company is executing power projects of about 7500 MW capacity, including 2200 MW of hydro capacity. Out of this, 2500 MW capacity is expected to become operational in 2012 through the commissioning of projects at Vemagiri in Andhra Pradesh, Kamalanga in Odisha, and Warora in Maharashtra.
