Nagpur, 22nd September 2026: GMR Nagpur International Airport Limited (GNIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Airports Ltd., has further enhanced passenger experience with the introduction of Single-Step Face Recognition technology at all its DigiYatra-enabled gates. This advancement enables faster, seamless, and hassle-free airport entry and movement for passengers.
The initiative is designed to enhance passenger convenience while improving operational efficiency through a fully contactless travel experience. With DigiYatra, registered passengers can use facial recognition as their identity credential at designated checkpoints, minimizing manual document verification and enabling a smoother journey through the airport.
Speaking on the development, Mr. Srikanth Bhandarkar, Chief Executive Officer, GMR Nagpur International Airport Ltd., “Enhancing passenger experience remains a key focus at Nagpur Airport. The upgrade of the DigiYatra facility with single-step face recognition is a step in this direction, making the passenger journey more seamless, faster and convenient. By simplifying the verification process and reducing manual interventions, we are building on the existing DigiYatra ecosystem to deliver a more efficient and contactless travel experience for our passengers.”
How the DigiYatra Experience Has Been Enhanced at Nagpur Airport:
With the introduction of Single-Step Face Recognition, passengers no longer need to scan their boarding pass at the DigiYatra-enabled entry gate. Passengers who have already completed registration on the DigiYatra app and linked their boarding pass can now simply walk up to the DigiYatra gate, where facial recognition alone will authenticate their identity and open the gate automatically. This enhancement makes airport entry faster, more seamless, and significantly more convenient.
How DigiYatra Worked Earlier at Nagpur Airport:
- Step 1: Register on DigiYatra: Download the DigiYatra app and complete the registration process by providing the required details. Passengers can link their identity credentials and complete facial authentication within the app.
- Step 2: Link Your Boarding Pass: Upload or link your boarding pass in the DigiYatra app and share the travel details with the departure airport.
- Step 3: Access the DigiYatra Gate: Upon arriving at the airport, passengers were required to scan their boarding pass at a DigiYatra-enabled gate. The system would then verify the boarding pass and authenticate the passenger through facial recognition.
- Step 4: Seamless Movement Through Checkpoints: Once authenticated, passengers could use facial recognition at DigiYatra-enabled checkpoints across the airport for a smoother travel experience.
The single-step face recognition process simplifies passenger verification and helps reduce waiting time, while enabling a faster, smoother and more contactless journey through the airport. The initiative is part of GMR Airports’ continued focus on leveraging technology to simplify the passenger journey and improve operational efficiency at its airports.
